Here at The Army Painter we're always on the lookout for worthy charities and efforts to help support and boost in whatever way we can. When Aaron reached out to us from The Battle Against Breast Cancer, we knew right away that we wanted to help.
Rather than tell you about it ourselves, we grabbed Aaron to fill us in on everything that's going on with this charity, including tournaments and an amazing raffle in collaboration with the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation!
Hi Aaron, can you tell us a bit about the NOCF and the Battle Against Breast Cancer?
Aaron: "The Battle Against Breast Cancer" is a series of competitive 24x individual 40k tournaments held across the US to benefit the American Cancer Society and help fund breast cancer research and critical patient services. 1-in-8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives (men can get it too) and a large portion of our community either has been or might someday be directly impacted by this disease, so this is our way of contributing to the fight. Beyond supporting research, $65 can provide lodging for a breast cancer patient near their hospital or treatment facility. $50 can provide a ride to and from chemotherapy appointments. ACS also provides a patient hotline to support people as they struggle through treatment. These seem like small things - but for someone who is fighting through this, especially someone who is fighting alone, this support can make all the difference.
We've also partnered up with a group of ~20+ artists from around the world to run an online raffle hosted by the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation (NOCF), which has been regularly running raffles for a wide range of charitable causes over the years. Many of our pieces are already live, and a few more entries are on the way! Overall, we see this as a 40k community event that brings the sometimes disconnected art and competitive sides of the hobby together for a great cause while letting us showcase the goodwill and camaraderie that we know is at the core of this hobby.
How can The Army Painter fans best support your cause?
Aaron: There are a couple of options!
Take a look at the raffle!
All profits from the raffle will be donated directly to the American Cancer Society along with the combined profits of our tournament series. Check out some incredible art and maybe buy a few raffle tickets to contribute to the cause. The raffle can be viewed here.
It is live now and will run until November 14th at which point NOCF will draw and ship to winners.
Play in our tournaments - or run one of your own!
Our full tournament schedule is listed here. Stores and TO's are welcome to join us and get additional tournaments involved - the only requirement we ask is that they donate at least some portion of their tournament's proceeds to the ACS via our shared donation portal on the ACS website.
Donate directly, if you prefer!
While we are using this donation portal primarily to pool the proceeds from our participating events, individuals are also welcome to donate directly to the ACS via this portal on the ACS website - this gives us a dashboard that we are using to track all of our collective efforts and be able to show the community the total impact when we are done.
