There’s nothing more nerve-wracking than switching from one paint range to another and not knowing if you’ll be able to match the colour scheme on your ongoing collection of minis. As painters, we’ve all been in that position. Veteran hobbyists of The Army Painter ranges will have felt something along those lines this past year when the new and improved Warpaints Fanatic range replaced our long-standing original Warpaints line. While some of the colours carried over, such as Daemonic Yellow and Greenskin, plenty of others didn’t have an exact match.
Worry no more, as we now have this extremely helpful Colour Conversion Chart!
You can find the full size version of it under Downloads on the Blog drop down, or right here.
Not only do we show you the closest matches from the old Warpaints range to their newer Fanatic cousins, but also from the Warpaints Air range, as well as the Citadel range of paints from Games Workshop. Painting up your newest squad of Space Marines, but have recently switched to Warpaints Fanatic? We have you covered! You can just consult the chart and find the closest possible match for your colour scheme.
Our team of painters made a physical colour swatch of every paint from across all four ranges on the chart so they could compare dried paint to dried paint under real-world lighting, ensuring the most accurate comparisons. Not every colour is an exact match, though some are pretty close! Others fall within what we consider a “fairly reasonable” comparison – meaning you may notice a difference, but it will still work as a good replacement colour. Of course, you will be the ultimate arbitrator in what you consider to be a good match for your existing paint colours, but this chart will definitely point you in the right direction!
